The property was previously known as the Goodrich Dairy Farm. Dale Goodrich, born in 1943, grew up milking cows and producing syrup. After attending the Cornell Agriculture program, Dale returned to the family farm and took over for his father, in hopes of carrying on the family tradition. He became involved in various agricultural organizations. He was well-known and loved by many. Under his leadership, the farm received the prestigious 15-year Super Milk award.
Dale had no children but made a lasting impression on his nephew from California, Edward Geier. Edward, a military veteran and a graduate in Dairy Science, had long dreamed of continuing the farming legacy. Edward learned from Dale and officially assumed control of the farm in 2008 with the support of his wife Lori. He led the farm to earn the 20 and 25-year Super Milk awards before making the hard decision to sell the cows in 2019.
Today, the day-to-day operations of Sugar Hill Farm are managed by Ed and Anna Geier. They represent the fifth generation to farm the land and the farm has celebrated a century under their leadership. Ed is the only son of Lori and Edward Geier and took over the farm in 2019 when the cows were sold and the farm transitioned to crop production.
At just 24 years old, Ed has been responsible for starting the FFA chapter at Sherburne- Earlville High School, winning first place at the NYS FFA maple competition (2 years), and winning first place for first cutting small squares in the NYS Fair (3 years). He is an active member of the volunteer fire department, and runs the farm in addition to working for the Town of Sherburne.
He shared his passion and taught his middle school sweetheart, Anna, how to run almost everything on the farm. Anna fell in love with the lifestyle and him, and both have created a home in the 1810 farmhouse on the property. Anna helps Ed with maple sap collection, raking, tedding, and unloading hay, and manages the farmstand. Anna graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in May 2025 and works locally with special education children.
At Sugar Hill Farm, our goal is to continue the tradition of family farms. You can support our dreams by buying local grown produce, visiting and supporting family farms, and staying connected to where your food comes from! We hope to see you on the farm!
Sincerely,
Sugar Hill Farm Family
